In spring, the ancient crafts of Radifocani tradition are celebrated.
Since 2001 the ancient village of Radicofani, on the days of June 1 and 2, comes alive under the banner of the rediscovery of ancient traditions. Two days dedicated to the re-enactment of the main working traditions, culinary, trades and means of livelihood, under the banner of memory and past time in the ancient village of Ghino di Tacco.
The streets and squares come alive with artisans at work, displays of old farm tools, open cellars, reenactment of hand reaping and threshing with vintage machines. The opening of the festival takes place on the evening of June 1 with a large dinner of typical dishes followed by dancing. On June 2, the festival begins in the morning with a parade of farm machinery and continues with a re-enactment of master rope-makers at work. In the afternoon, a “quadrille” takes place in the square followed by the re-enactment of threshing with vintage machines and the haystack hauling.
Until evening, the village is enlivened by traveling groups and theatrical performances. In addition to threshing, the moment of milking and cheese making in the square is recreated, as well as the collective work of washing with ashes. The cellars, workshops of the knife grinder, blacksmith, carpenter, shoemaker, wicker basket maker and embroiderer are open. Throughout the day, the group “Hunters First Archery Company” recreates the moment of skin styling and bow making.
The purpose of the festival proposed by the Radicofani community is to engage visitors by having them rediscover their past, but also to remind itself of its deep roots. Food stands with traditional country menus are in operation during the festival.
