Departure of the historic steam train is scheduled for 9:10 a.m. from Grosseto station with arrival in Montepescali, the first leg of the route, at 9:25 a.m.
It continues on to Monte Antico where, with arrival scheduled for 10:05 a.m., a short stop is planned for loading water into the locomotive, during which it will be possible to watch water refilling operations and take picturesque photographs.
The journey continues through the Val d’Orcia Park, the Brunello di Montalcino areas and the Crete Senesi.
It is scheduled to arrive in Asciano at 11:43 a.m., and shortly after, at 11:54 a.m., the train will stop in Asciano Monte Oliveto Maggiore.
In free time it will be possible to visit the ancient village or participate in some activities (for a fee and with prior reservation) such as a visit to the Museums of Sacred Art, the Etruscan Museum and the Cassioli Museum. Or reach the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore by bus from Asciano, reservation required.
Passengers on the historic train can choose between guided tours and two trekking routes:
- Route 1 – 12 noon Free phototour with reservations required. In the first part from 12 to 1 p.m. with a route from the station to the center of Asciano Monte Oliveto Maggiore and back in the afternoon from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
- Route 2 – 2:30 pm Tour of Asciano, reservation required. Tour of the historic center with guided tour and return to the station.
- Route 3 – 11:30 am Trequanda to Fattoria Poggio Pinci – about 6 km, accompanied by environmental guide. The route takes place entirely on the slopes of the Crete Senesi. A shuttle service will also be organized from Poggio Pinci to Asciano.
- Route 4 – From the historic center, through the hills of the Crete Senesi, returning directly to Asciano M.O.M. FS station accompanied by environmental guide.
The return train to Grosseto is scheduled to depart at 4:48 p.m., arriving at the destination by 6:48 p.m.
